This fine pre-WW2 Japanese Army Officer's shin-gunto sword is a superior example. In fact, this sword is an art sword--it was made by a superior smith to demonstrate/show off his skills. This sword is an utsuchi of a Fukuoka Ichimonji. This sword would make a fine addition to any collection. The tang is signed 'Yamato no Kuni Tada Yoshi'. Note the bold, well-cut signature. The reverse tang is dated 1932. This healthy gendai art sword measures 26 1/8" (as measured properly from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki). The sarute is an early monkey hands type. This sword has an olive drab-painted wood saya with a leather combat cover. Note the extraordinary hamon on this sword--here is its description: o gunome choji midare with hotsure to tobi yaki, nado. Or, Eige de, large priest head, clove, irregular, boiling away, flying temper. Condition: This antique Japanese gendai sword is in extraordinary condition. I have done nothing to clean up the blade. There are very occasional tiny spots with the beginnings of oxidation on the blade--these are of the type that will be easily removed with some clove oil and uchiko powder. There is a dark spot on the blade visible in the photos--that was just some grime that came right off. There are three tiny nail nicks in the blade edge. The blade is perfectly straight. All fittings are in above average condition. The leather combat cover on the saya/scabbard has minor crazing and scuffs. As is often the case with leather combat covers, one of the two snaps is gone on it. This sword is guaranteed against fatal flaws (as all of my swords are).
